My little man turned 2 at the weekend and celebrated in style with a dinosaur birthday party. We narrowly escaped a Frozen themed party as this has been Harrison’s love for the past year (along with the rest of the world, except all parents with children that is!) but as the film wore thin on mummy and daddy, daddy saw an opportunity to divert Harrison’s obsession else where and took it just in time!! Moving away from the flouncy girly theme to something with a bit more bite!
As most mums do, once the theme of the party was set I was straight on Pinterest gathering inspiration. I love party planning and soon had small packages flying through the letter box from Ebay and Amazon every few days for all the little party accessories that would bring the theme of the party together. Of course any paper pretties were designed by myself with the theme matching throughout. Pre-party I designed invitations and envelope liners and for decoration and finishing touches on the day I made straw and canape flags, stickers for favours, personalised bunting and some signage.
For the first time ever, I baked a birthday cake, again taken from Pinterest. I decided to go for a rustic design that gave me the freedom to not have to be too precise in my decoration. Whilst I am a creative creature I didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself juggling everything else for the day too. The result… a very yummy, gooey chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and ganache, and topped and filled with crumbled cookies. YUM!
We were blessed with sunshine after weeks of cold wind and rain, a big relief to have the kids out out of my white and cream conservatory!!! (However it didn’t really survive the mud as it was on route to the buffet table!)
I have collected some of my favourite photos from Harrison’s party. I hope you enjoy them!
